In a world where there is so much conflict and disaster listening to the news can feel overwhelming.

For people in Lebanon the trauma of being forced to flee their home is a nightmare they have faced before, and the scale of destruction and loss of life must be truly overwhelming. The escalation of violence in the Middle-East is causing further displacement across Lebanon, a country that is already home to one of the largest refugee populations in the world.

Since the beginning of March, more than 1,000,000 individuals have been displaced, in a country where already around 1 in 5 people is a refugee. (UNHCR)

Habitat for Humanity Lebanon has been on ground since 2001, working with families and communities to address urgent housing needs.

Support from people like you meant we were able to send funds which enabled Habitat Lebanon to respond in the wake of the Beirut port explosion in 2020, and in 2024 funds raised here provided emergency shelter interventions for those forced to flee their homes in Southern Lebanon.

Right now, community buildings, football stadiums and public schools are being used as ‘collective shelters’ to accommodate those displaced. These facilities were not designed to be lived in, and they are now operating well beyond capacity.

Overcrowding, inadequate sanitation and hygiene facilities, lack of privacy and limited accessibility are just some of the challenges facing those in shelters.

Habitat Lebanon is working to improve the safety, dignity and living conditions of 2,500 displaced individuals by rehabilitating and upgrading these shelters

Improvements will include; repairs to doors, windows and locks; electrical upgrades and improved lighting; installation of partitions to reduce overcrowding and improve privacy; water and sanitation facility improvements and accessibility adaptations.

We can’t do everything; but will you join us in doing something by donating whatever you can afford to support the response in Lebanon?
