This week marks the second anniversary of the first of two devastating earthquakes hitting Nepal. The world watched with horror as Nepal crumbled.
In seconds families lost everything. The homes of 4.5 million people were destroyed or damaged; that’s 2.5 times the population of Northern Ireland.
We asked the people of Northern Ireland to support Habitat's recovery and rebuilding programme in the communities worst-affected. You responded with great generosity.
It's now been two years since the disaster, and Habitat has continued to work in Nepal, supporting the local people to rebuild their lives.
The infographic above shows the impact of your support. Over 5,000 temporary shelter kits and 20,000 water packs have been distributed to those most in need.
More than 16,000 houses have been assessed, with 87 permanent homes built. These new homes are disaster-resilient, making them less vulnerable to future earthquakes.
Two years on, we hear from Binda who was affected by the disaster. She and her family had been living in a shed since their house collapsed in the disaster, leaving their belongings buried under the rubble.
A mother of two from the Nuwakot district of central Nepal, Binda was overjoyed when Habitat Nepal began rebuilding her community.
